a week in yucatan – part II

Hi, click here for part 1! This might be a lengthy post, but it will be worth it! Enjoy!! :)

los tres cenotes, cuzama

IMG_9302

this was amazing little hidden gem in mexico. pictures i would see online don’t do it justice. here are some my family and i took on our trip to yucatan this spring break (I know, i’m uploading this really late, oops) –

cenotes are sinkholes – holes in the ground with water in them, basically. and one can swim in them. there are many, many of these in yucatan. my dad, per recommendation of a friend, took us to some in a town called Cuzama. they were three cenotes, and to get to them you had to pay and you would be taken on both a motorcycle with seats and then on a sort of train powered by a horse (pictures below of both), and with that comes a guide and he has life vests/jackets you can rent. ours was really helpful. his name was martin martinez (how could one forget that name!). the three have different depths. we only went to two – the second and the last one – because our guide said the first one was harder to get into and deeper.

my dad and my sister were the only brave ones of the family to go in. i chicken’d out just seeing those stairs on the ground. i regret a little not going in.

sorry about the pictures looking a little blurry or grainy. they were taken with my dad’s cellphone. but you get the idea! :)

paseo Montejo, Mérida

paseo montejo is a classic street in merida. it is full of big homes and mansions. a lot of them house events or are museums and businesses.

valladolid

this used to be a place we loved to visit in yucatan. it was small peaceful, colorful town with very little cars and tourists. we went this year and it looks like other people discovered our favorite place. it is still nice to visit, but we were disappointed to find more movement than in past years.

anytime we got the chance we would buy an esquite or an elote. corn in a cob in other words.

like i said, there are many cenotes in yucatan. couple of them are near valladolid, this one is called Zaci. you could swim in it, even dive. there’s a lifeguard there too.

thanks for stopping by!

Did you like this post? We’ve traveled to different parts of Mexico. Let me know if you would like me to share our past adventures. It would be a pleasure :)

The Fake Word

I’m not creative enough to come up with words, but I can relate to this article. Can you?
David and I were having a similar conversation earlier: many of the things one comes up with have already been invented or patented or have always existed but we didn’t know, etc. And it kind of sucks. Or someone creates something simple and you’re like “What?? I could’ve made that myself!”
Anyway, enjoy this read!

I accidentally created a fake word a few days ago.  It happened because of my new boss, a younger Ivy League guy who likes to talk a lot and think of new acronyms for old ideas.   Anyway, after a meeting, I was ticked off and quietly muttered to a co-worker who (I hope) agrees with me:

“This new guy is way too damnbitious.”

I had meant to say “too damn ambitious” but I ran the words together.  It was an accident.

“You came up with a new word,” my co-worker said.  “If he fires you for complaining, at least you have that.”

I don’t like new words, especially if they’re fake.  The English language has enough words, so many that we don’t need many fake ones.  Last year, I used…

ENTREMESES

last weekend i had the privilege of being part of a production called Entremeses. as i had stated in my previous post, it consisted of ten little 10-minute plays; every single one completely different from the next.

if you would like to watch them – even just one of them – then click here. one i really, really recommend you watch is The Man Who Couldn’t Dance. ugh, the feels! kudos to Spike and Kassandra for making it amazing. and to Brian for sharing the videos. you rock! (he came out in Drugs Are Bad. really funny and original. watch it too if you can!)

I was so lucky to have shared the stage with some really talented artists. they are just awesome people. so kind and unique. the kind of people that give off that good vibe that just makes you feel happy. although i don’t personally know them, i’m glad i met them. i won’t ever forget their performances or their personalities. around them i never felt embarrassed or not encouraged.
