excitement!

I just developed a bunch of film  (7 rolls to be exact) dating back to May. I want to share some of my favorite pictures with you because, I don’t know, I really like them and this is my little corner of the world and having pictures makes me happy. and i hope it makes you happy as well :)

oh! also, we went on vacation and I have a few pictures to share from our trip there, too :)

“What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person.”

John Green

My friend Doris (if you’re reading this, hey girl!) had this iPhone cover that had that quote in watercolors. It stuck to me since the first day I saw it. Especially the word “treacherous” cuz boy do I suck at pronouncing it, haha. But I don’t know, I always liked it.

The other day my family and I went to the movies because my sister wanted to watch the premier of Paper Towns, since she was reading the book. I really liked it! It was cute and funny, and it makes you think about what you’re doing with your life and that you still can do something, or that maybe you should’ve done something else.

To my surprise that quote came up and I was like WOAH WAIT! IT’S FROM THIS BOOK!? Cuz I always wondered, and for some reason never researched it’s origins, or even remember asking Doris where it was from.

It made me happy to know who the rightful author of that quote is and that it was used in such a cute movie and book.

It basically means just that. That you shouldn’t look at person as a salvation or a miracle or whatever you want in your life. Regardless of how much you love them and what they’ve done for you, a person is just a person and nothing more. —At least that’s what I got from the movie. People who actually read the book probably have a deeper meaning and could explain it better. But for watching the movie, and not wanting to blur out anything accidentally, I can only say that.

p.s: Happy (belated) Birthday, Doris. I know I already said it, but still. This week I’ve had you in mind. Let’s go get a coffee or pizza!
And to you, reader: If you want to laugh for a while, go watch the movie. Or hey, read the book if you’d like!

milkmaid braids

Braids are usually all the rage during the summer time, or honestly anytime. I can only do certain types of braids on myself, other types of braids on other people, and some I just cannot master because either I confuse which piece of hair goes next or my arms tell me I should work out because they are not strong enough and get tired and shake and it’s becomes a mess just to keep my hair up..

But today I did it! I wore milkmaid braids!

Not that I hadn’t mastered how to do this look before – because quite honestly it’s not hard and I had – but I finally wore it out in public. And yes, I did get stares because it’s not common and it might look a little dorky from an angle, but I really don’t care, I loved how they looked. It made me feel like I was a lady in those old paintings. <3

We were out of town and waiting in line and it was hot that I just decided to braid my hair and it transformed into that. BEST DECISION EVER! If you know how to do a basic braid, have bobbie pins around, and want to look like your hairdo took longer to make than it did, DO THIS! I did this with second-day hair. No shame! And with no mirror, other than the reflection my mother’s glasses gave. So see, you can do it too.

It’s easy. I got the idea from one of my favorite bloggers, Love Taza, who constantly rocks these! Here is a tutorial she made on how to do them.

Basically you make two braids, one on each side of your head, tie the ends with a hair tie, cross them on top of your head to the opposite side, and pin them down. That’s it.

TA-DA! Easy. I wore my bangs during the day but later at night I pushed them back between my braids to have my forehead free.

Style it however you want and wear whatever you wish. If you like something, rock it!

If you try it, let me know!

farmer’s market: june

Because today was our town’s farmer’s market and we didn’t get to go and we are sad, I wanted to share a couple of cute pictures my boyfriend took of Max last month that we went. For memories and such.

Just look at him! Happy boy. Oh and look at the size of that mango in my hand! Huge!

All smiles + my grandma in the background, hey!

We even made it to one of the local magazines:

Picture from the article. So famous, that Pug!

Regardless of his popularity and our happiness produced by the food present, Max had a little..accident, if you will.. I completely forgot to bring doggy bags until he reminded me by leaving a present for the grass. Oh, Max… All of us, even grandma, had to pretend we didn’t know that had happened. We just left laughing. What else could we do, haha! Sorry!

Oh, also this really creepy old truck driver guy came up to my sister and me and started flirting with us and telling me that I should dump my boyfriend, and that he was in a hunt for a wife that looked like me. We ran.. haha

Anyway, leaving the poop and creepy guy talk behind, I hope your day is good and that you are happy :)

Thanks for stopping by, and don’t talk to strangers, kids! See you soon :)

“Tienen animales muy exóticos!”

“You have very exotic pets!” …is what my cousin’s husband said over dinner as he visited our home for the first time and met (almost) all of our pets.

there’s napoleon and linda, the guinea pigs;

max, cake, angie, and jimmy, the dogs;

my mom’s nameless bird;

sebastian the fish, which my sister got a friend’s party (it was a centerpiece, can you believe it?! it’s a living thing!! but oh well, we rescued it, I suppose. he seems happy!);

and now we have a new member…

ALEXANDER THE HEDGEHOG!

IMG_7184

my little sister got it for her 12th birthday. i know, i know, adopt don’t shop, and all that, but believe me! we looked, even in craigslist, and there was no hedge in need of a home.

she became like a walking hedgehog encyclopedia because of how much she researched about them. so when her birthday came my dad drove her to a farm 3 hours away to get little alexander.

she has been super responsible with him. i mean, all he does is sleep, mostly, but when he’s up boy does he poop! and she cleans it without making a fuss – she even feeds him worms!! need I say he even has an instagram… I face-palmed when she told me but it’s kinda cute and she has fun running it, just like I have fun writing this blog, so.

He’s been using the cage Napo and Linda used when they were babies too. Once they got bigger, we transfer them to a new cage more fit for their size. For right now that one is perfect for him. And we’re currently on the hunt for a wheel cuz he’s already gaining weight!
