almost two weeks ago, David and I packed up his jeep, grabbed our bathing suits, and took Franklin, my french bulldog, to the beach. I believe it was his first time at the beach. you see, I rescued him from a family that did not pay attention to him; he came with numerous health issues and lived outdoors, to name a few things, so I highly doubt they ever took him to the beach. I’m extremely happy to report that he loved it! :)
april is not your typical time to go to the beach, but it was my birthday weekend and I felt like doing something different. I’m not a fan of the beach, but for some reason, I was craving the beach, you know? I have always wanted to take Franklin because I had a feeling he would love it, and, well, he did.
we spent our day at Mustang Island State Park in Corpus Christi, Texas. I had been there before with my family and when I found out they were dog-friendly, we took this trip the next day. thankfully dogs are allowed anywhere as long they’re on a leash.
going to the beach mid-april was probably the best decision we could’ve taken because, thanks to the nice weather, Franklin didn’t get overheated, we didn’t get sunburnt, and there wasn’t a crowd. it was very calm and it was honestly the first time I have absolutely loved going to the beach. I want to go more often now, but I know that once the weather starts to get hotter, the beach won’t be as enjoyable because it won’t include those aspects I liked of this visit. also, am I the only one that feels bad for going to the beach because of the contamination people generate? :\ it’s so sad seeing it. thankfully this beach was clean and its staff caring. they even featured Franklin on their instagram! :)
you don’t know how in love I am with that little guy… I know that because of his health he won’t be with me for a long time, so I’m trying to give him the very best life I can right now to make up for the suffering he endured before; to show him more of the world and new experiences. I know he’s just a dog, and that I probably sound silly talking as if he were a person, but if you’re an animal lover like me, you totally get it.
afterwards, the three of us got hungry and went to a burger joint just around the corner from the beach– the Padre Island Burger Company. BringFido said they were dog-friendly and had good reviews, so our decision wasn’t that tough. the staff was sooo friendly they even let us bring Franklin inside to be able to order. even the bar’s patrons were happy to see him. we ate in one of their picnic tables outside while Franklin observed customers go in and out the restaurant. I didn’t take photos with my camera while we were there, but I have some highlighted on my instastories if you’d like to check them out :)! and yes, their burgers were really good!
^ boyfriend wanted some pictures of his red jeep at the beach. I’m so proud of him. it’s his second car, but this time new and he bought it himself after he graduated and got his big-boy job. seeing your friends succeed, or in this case, partner, is such a good feeling. I’m happy to see him happy.
^ fun fact: got inside the water to get this and another shot above just because I wanted the water to come out. I am so glad my camera did not fall into the ocean! I didn’t have a strap on it or anything. bad owner. ^
I did not use to appreciate the fact that we have the beach 3 hours away until a friend who moved to our city thought it was amazing to have the gulf of mexico so close. it’s one of those facts you know but don’t realize. because she’s right, not everyone has a beach nearby and can take a sunday trip to it like we did. not to mention the road is also nice since you’re going through many cute rural towns. now every time I talk about where I live I throw in that little fact with pride.
I loved this day. we only did those two things and it was truly perfect like that. and seeing how excited Franklin was running into the water and rubbing his body in the sand was priceless.
Do you live nearby a beach? Have you ever taken your dog to the beach? Know of any places we must visit with Franklin around Texas? Let me know :) & thank you so much for stopping by. you can follow my blog via wordpress or by email or follow me on instagram @dianaagabrieela :)
