primero de septiembre

this september started so well. I know we are in the third day, but so far it has been fun. on the first day, I went to my botany class laboratory in the morning and looked at slides under the microscope – which I love to do. it is probably one of my favorite things to do in school. you get a hands on learning experience and get to see things in a different light. truly magnificent.

at night, david & I got ready and headed to an art gallery downtown that was displaying local photographers’ work. and it featured a photo I took when i went to india back in january. since the airline had lost my luggage, i was forced to take photos with my iphone (and wear the same outfit many many times). I was disappointed that I went to a place I always dreamt of going and not have my camera with me to capture such vibrant colors and amazing people. but, after seeing this photo displayed like that, it made me proud to still get good shots with what I had in hand. and it also made me proud that i survived in another continent with not many things at hand!

here are some photos of our day, which turned out to be pretty random yet perfect.

THE GALLERY

as beautiful as the gallery was, we honestly felt a little bit out place. it was our first time ever going to an event there (so that itself was a little nerve-wracking), and it was full of fancy people and hipsters of all kinds. not that that is a bad thing, cuz they were all so nice, but it is just weird to be in among a different crowd, y’know? being the new kid in school, the outsider kinda feeling.

THE CONCERT

we only stayed for a bit and then left. we couldn’t decide what to do, but there was a concert in town of a man whose music I LOVE: leon larregui! so we called my friend didi who lived nearby, asked her “what are you doing? do you want to go to a concert right now?” she said yes (without even knowing who’s concert it was) and joined us. friends who agree to going anywhere with you in heartbeat are priceless.

IMG_0814 IMG_0815 IMG_0818 IMG_0822

I still can’t believe I got to see the man who created the music I listen to almost daily. he’s amazing, I swear.

THE FANCY DINNER

then..we got a little hungry and since it was late we just decided to go cheap and eat mcdonald’s. (i know, we’re always eating there! oops!) i made didi pose (more like randomly screaming, “Don’t move!”) for a few shots. I just enjoy photographing other people so much, especially in a candid manner if possible.

hurray for cameras with wifi that let you take photos with your phone!

THE BEDS WE SLEEP IN

then we went to didi’s apartment, played with her dogs molly & zelda, and slept over.

THE NEXT DAY

the next day, we went to the gallery again because they were selling local artisanal crafts. this time it was more welcoming and friendly. I bought handmade soap and a crotched donut!! then, we bought wings, went to didi’s place, ate while watching bob’s burgers, and slept over once more.

valentine’s day

Instax - Jan-Feb 2016 15 Instax - Jan-Feb 2016 5

I don’t really like Valentine’s Day. I don’t have anything against it; it’s just not my thing or David’s, so we just don’t celebrate it. Yesterday consisted of being outside his garage, talking in the moonlight, with frequent visits of his neighbor’s dog, drinking sprite, taking pictures, a lot of hugging and when-we-get-married talk. I loved it. I love him. Possibly my favorite Valentine’s Day so far. How was yours?

This year has been pretty good so far. Can’t wait to see what else it has in store.

2015 was good to me too. I lost people, I met people. I probably cried more times than I laughed, if I must be honest. But I treasure it. It taught me a lot of things, especially to not stress over the little things and that everything happens for a reason. Two very important things to remember in this life.

Anyway, friends. I hope you have a very good Monday night. Cherish every moment you can!!

your friend,

diana

austin, san marcos, a gig, and food.

hiya friends! how’ve you been? i hope well :) this past monday boyfriend, his band, and i went to austin because they had a gig. i really like that city. it’s so youthful, has delightful architecture, and the people i’ve talked to have been so nice. oh, and its motto is “keep austin weird” which is..interesting, haha.

here are some photos from our trip, accompanied with a few transitions like those in Frasier. well maybe not as clever, but i tried! (please tell me you understand that reference?! brownie points if you do!)

WHEN IN AN IRISH PUB…ORDER WATER AND WINGS?

IMG_9579IMG_9577

the boys love a good beer, but this time we didn’t order any; just three orders of wings and two potato soups. THEY WERE SO GOOD! we couldn’t finish all of them though. too many.

DIRTY DOG BAR

it’s the second time the boys play here. as always, it was a good show.

I still ask myself why I didn’t apply for this university.. it looks challenging, yet amazing.

after the show we somehow got hungry again and boys decided to give this restaurant, Big Bite, a try. they serve these big sandwiches with multiple things in them. david and i shared one that had chicken strips, french fries, and mozzarella sticks, all drenched in buffalo sauce and ranch. yes, that sounds, and is, extremely fatty, but that combination was tasty! total college food.

we slept over at our friend’s apartment in a little town – that by the way is so cute! – about 30 minutes from the capital. (oh, and she owns a chinchilla named mango! how cool is that?) we ventured downtown, got smoothie king, shopped in a store full of cool knickknacks, and ate tacos. (gosh, we sure do eat a lot..)

does my writing transpire the excitement i felt? pardon my thoughts being out of order and my constant use of exclamation marks and sophomoric adjectives. these were two fun days!

what have you been up to friends? :) boyfriend and i are up to our neck in finals. it’s not fun. if you, too, are in finals, we understand your pain and are here cheering for ya! be safe, be well, have a little fun! and have a very good day.

thanksgiving break trip and one photo booth strip

Urban Outfitters Photo booth with david and ddboyfriend and i went with our friend didi to san antonio for a day. they went to fix their iphones in this big outdoors shopping mall and I accompanied them. didi took her yorkie, molly, who behaved so well and is so cute!

we stopped by urban outfitters; david to look at records, didi to shop for plaid shirts, and I to look at their cameras. i had been to the store several times before and i never noticed they had a photo booth. the last time i remember taking pictures in a photo booth was when i was in elementary school – i know! yeears ago! how lame is that! so when david offered i didn’t hesitate. we both ran in and snapped the first two photos. on the third one didi came in after finding us.

awesome photo booth strip :) kinda wished we would’ve gotten one more strip with more of didi, and maybe molly..

we drove back to our little town at night after having free donuts in krispy kream. did you know that when their sign is on it means free donuts?! david and i did not!! oh those warm donuts <3

after that we had thanksgiving with our families and then we met up with old friends (click here to see photos of that day).

this post is a little late, but how was your thanksgiving? and how has your week been so far? i hope you have a nice day :)

seeing old friends

IMAG9919

That’s boyfriend, myself, and our friend Andy having brunch in IHOP.

Oh, how we love Andy! If I were a mom, I would want my kid to be just like him. So nice, helpful, respectful. The epitome of a good person.

Snapchat-8061294874663623278

We also love his company. So when the opportunity to see him presented itself (since we don’t really see each other cuz he’s in another city for college), we took it! I love this kid and his sense of humor – can’t say it enough!

After leaving IHOP and saying good bye to Andy, as he was about to go on the road, David and I went back to my house to pick up a package I had just received: the Minolta XG7! Ah, so excited to try it out!

Later, David picked up his two band members, they ate, loaded up their instruments and we all went to a bar where they played for the night. They had beer and played us their music, I had a drink and took some videos. (I also studied for anatomy cuz I felt bad for not doing so, but can you blame me? Too many terms!)

IMAG9923

Monday morning in school I’m sitting in the library’s computer lab and I see a familiar figure coming in. It was my high school best friend, Esteban. I approached him and he sat next to me and caught up a bit. I like it when we talk. I don’t, nor do I think I will ever, exactly know why we stopped talking much after high school. We had a really good brother-sister relationship.

Snapchat-3641538997419693442

I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing like seeing old, long-time good friends. The conversations, the history, the jokes, everything. Even if we meet new people or live far away from each other or are each busy with our lives, we can still get together one afternoon and laugh like only a day passed since we last saw each other. And I find that fucking awesome and it makes me happy.

I love my friends. I hope we keep seeing each other like this.

Max’s first time in a pool

Oh, how I really wish these would have come out perfect. Not blurry like they are, cuz this was a really fun day. Getting together with old friends, eating wings, watching a horror movie, swimming in a really hot day with a pug by your side… I mean, really, is there anything better in the summer? I think not.

(some photos by me, some photos by my beautiful friend, doris.)

ps: I don’t think Max liked the pool, but it did help him cool off on this very sunny day.

“What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person.”

John Green

My friend Doris (if you’re reading this, hey girl!) had this iPhone cover that had that quote in watercolors. It stuck to me since the first day I saw it. Especially the word “treacherous” cuz boy do I suck at pronouncing it, haha. But I don’t know, I always liked it.

The other day my family and I went to the movies because my sister wanted to watch the premier of Paper Towns, since she was reading the book. I really liked it! It was cute and funny, and it makes you think about what you’re doing with your life and that you still can do something, or that maybe you should’ve done something else.

To my surprise that quote came up and I was like WOAH WAIT! IT’S FROM THIS BOOK!? Cuz I always wondered, and for some reason never researched it’s origins, or even remember asking Doris where it was from.

It made me happy to know who the rightful author of that quote is and that it was used in such a cute movie and book.

It basically means just that. That you shouldn’t look at person as a salvation or a miracle or whatever you want in your life. Regardless of how much you love them and what they’ve done for you, a person is just a person and nothing more. —At least that’s what I got from the movie. People who actually read the book probably have a deeper meaning and could explain it better. But for watching the movie, and not wanting to blur out anything accidentally, I can only say that.

p.s: Happy (belated) Birthday, Doris. I know I already said it, but still. This week I’ve had you in mind. Let’s go get a coffee or pizza!
And to you, reader: If you want to laugh for a while, go watch the movie. Or hey, read the book if you’d like!

rockstars are hard to photograph

…but I got some pictures of three rockstars I am a huge fan of: George, David, and Chavira from Edging Rage! a.k.a, my boyfriend’s band. (of course I’m gonna go support every gig!)

Just like in my last post, these pictures were taken by the diana mini. I’m new to this whole analog thing, but I am learning :)

 btw,

feliz cinco de mayo

(..para todos los que celebran pensando que es el día de independencia de méxico!)

let’s be spontaneous..

some friends and i got together the other weekend to celebrate a friend’s 21st birthday.

he then invited us on a weekend road trip to san antonio to continue the celebration. and i must say, it was fun

“kickin’ in the back seat!” (sorry if our faces look stretched, camera’s fault)

over there, we met up with friends who have moved to other cities for college. it was nice seeing them cuz once the semester actually starts *boom* everyone disappears. but i don’t blame them. college is tough.

games, food, friends, drinks: one good night :)

 i love my friends

the next day we went to a cool little lego store called bricks and minifigs. at the entrance they had these build-your-own stations where you could purchase whatever it was you created.

IMAG8821
this one was the minifig station. legs, torsos, heads, hair, accessories. sounds like a horror film!

just picture all of us 20-some-year-olds building little mini figures and robots haha sorry, little kids, these are our legos now!

one millennium falcon to go please!

at night, while the grown ups went out, my friend lino decided to take his girlfriend emma and i for a burger at in-n-out. thanks, linosaurio!

1422163645797
my first time trying it. note to self: order it without onion next time.

it was good! and i would eat it again. i just think people make it a bigger hype than what is it (sorry, america)

compared to this one, whataburger is my still my favorite hands down. but in-n-out makes a better burger model for a picture. just look at all that cheese, ahh!

on the road back home, joe, didi, and i sang our lungs out to classic luis miguel songs. the most perfect way to end the weekend <3 (don’t judge, “[we] just have a lot of feelings!”)
