valentine’s day 2019: burgers, photo booth strips, & ear tattoos.

people say valentine’s day can be so shitty, and i get why they say that. i got nothing against it, but it’s not really my thing. it was the bomb in grade school, not gonna lie! picking the best card for your best friend and carefully selecting who got which one was the most thoughtful decision at that age.

my boyfriend and i don’t really do much on valentine’s day. we don’t even exchange gifts. but this year we, for some reason, both felt this pressure to do something. like, going out somewhere was something we absolutely had to do. we felt “like if we don’t do something, we suck,” as he put it. and we didn’t know why we felt this way if we had never fallen victim to this (either very loved or very hated) holiday before. has anyone felt that way too?

we spent an hour on the phone deciding what to do; talking about random things and sometimes being in complete silence with each other’s company. afterwards, those pressuring feelings went away and we decided to see each other and eat. he brought over to my house the most delicious thing ever known to man: a bacon cheeseburger. five guys burgers and fries to be precise.

we were just there in my little dining room with my nosy dogs around us, surrounded by the flowers and chocolates my mom and sisters exchanged, and it was perfect. our date and the delicious burgers – all perfect. i think this has become my favorite v day. how does doing something so ordinary end up meaning and changing so much just because of the date? weird, but i loved it.

he also handed me these photo booth strips. we took them a few weeks ago on a trip to new york inside the best pancake place that happens to have a vintage photo booth in the basement. and yep, that first photo caught us off guard. it’s still a cute strip and i can’t wait to frame them both.

i think after this i’m kind of a fan of this day. and i’m proud of us for not spending money on gifts. we said we weren’t because we were, truthfully, lazy (haha) and are saving for our future. :) (and to pay off our credit cards.. spend your money wisely, kids!) anyway, i do think the idea of having a whole day dedicated to love is an interesting one. and i don’t mean just relationship love. love for each other, love for friends, love for ourselves, etc. truly dissecting what it means to love. this world needs it, so i hope people look past the gifts and truly think about it and, ultimately, be kind enough to love each other.

i hope you had a good day, too!

much love,

 diana

oh, also: i have the word “LOVE” tattoed on my ear! just in case you wanted to know a random, fun fact about me ;)

“nobody reads what you write.” – second-guessing my writing and other fears i’m overcoming.

it’s been a while since i’ve posted something on here. i hate it when i don’t do so. and it’s not like i have people waiting for me to post. that’s not why i write. but i get mad at myself for not being consistent. i truly enjoy writing here, even if its just anecdotal. some might say it’s a little narcissistic to have a whole website where you just write about things you like, but for me it’s therapeutic. and if someone along the way reads it and enjoys it, then yay!

it’s also sometimes discouraging to hear people say no one reads blogs anymore. but i try to not give much care to them. if i write on here it’s for myself. either way, i know there are others like me who still enjoy reading blogs and who like writing for theirs. we even support each other.

i do have to admit there have been many times i’ve stepped away from my keyboard or many deleted drafts because the phrase “who even cares about this??” pops up into my head. the thought of my work being boring or uninteresting has not allowed me to post in so long. it’s almost like a writers-block, but an even more frustrating kind because you do know what to write, but you don’t know if you should even write it. it sucks. and i don’t think it should be that way.

so, i’m saying f that to those thoughts and am going to post once more. i miss it. and if you feel the same way or have had the same thoughts, say f it too and do what you love because you care and it makes you happy, regardless of what you create.

i am going to start writing here again, and that makes me so excited. i have some posts in mind and am planning on doing a little get to know me one just because i feel i started my blog randomly and never properly introduced myself. for now,

hi.
