mexico city – may 2017

hello, since a long time ago! i know its august and this post says may, but i have some photos from trips i’ve been wanting to share with you here.

after the spring semester ended, the boyfriend and i got on a plane and spent the weekend in mexico city for the graduation of our friend macarena. we love that city so much, so when she mentioned her graduation and invited us, it was the perfect excuse for a getaway too. david worked, so we couldn’t stay for many days, unfortunately, but our time there was just perfect either way.

we rented an airbnb (for the first time!) downtown and lovedddd it.

we stumbled upon this food festival where almost every country went to present their traditional dishes. it was amazing! unfortunately, we had just eaten so we didn’t try much even if we wanted to try everything! i tried little things like samosas, baklava, and natural drinks. david tried the beers.

we also went to the soumaya museum. it was founded by the richest man in mexico and top billionaire of the world for his late wife, and it is free and open to the public, displaying their art collection.

the graduations in mexico are very different to those in the states. it’s like prom, but with your family and alcohol.

if you’re reading this, macarena, congratulations again on this badass achievement. <3

i had more photos on my camera, but i lost the memory card :( why do they have to be so tiny and me so forgetful!

this was a perfect weekend. if you ever get the chance, please please please visit mexico city. it is amazing and beautiful. i have way more posts on this city here in my blog if you’d like to explore.

i hope you enjoyed this little post highlighting our weekend. :) i also went to nyc, london, and scotland, so if you’d like to see those, stay tuned! :D

p.s: if you’d like to check out airbnb, here is a coupon from me to you :)!

happy birthday, Jimmy!

Hi, everybody! I wanted to start writing here again; I miss it so much. I said I was gonna start writing at the beginning of the year, but bam, it’s now mid February already!

Anyway, what better way to make a come back on my little corner of the internet than to show you the celebration we did for my dog’s 6th birthday. We love Jimmy so much. He was a bit crazy the first years, but now he’s more calm and is so friendly. We put up decorations, got him a cake, and sang him happy birthday.

img_2199 img_2201 img_2178 img_2235

I think his favorite part was jumping to reach the balloons we hung from the tree– especially that red one!

img_2210 img_2204 img_2198 img_2197 img_2177

img_2159

We got him a cake from a local barkery, June Bug’s Barkery (get it? dog bakery, but they bark so bark-ery, hah!)

img_2249 img_2277

We tried to snap a photo of him next to his cake, but he went in for a bite before my sister could even put it down! At least he liked it!

If you didn’t know, I have a lot of dogs (six, to be exact), and I tend to foster some for a wonderful organization, pets alive laredo. My dogs were guests at Jimmy’s paw-ty, so I decided to photograph them too.

Meet: Cake the mini poodle, Angie the chihuahua, Tallulah the chi-weenie, Max the pug, and Franklin the french bulldog.

img_2136 img_2148 img_2138 img_2149

I just adopted Franklin last month. He’s 5, kinda blindy, and so chunky. I got to take this photo of him eating his cake. It was so funny! His crooked teeth and a big piece of cake!

img_2308

I hope you enjoyed this post. I loved that my family is as crazy as me about animals and went along with his party.

I promise to keep uploading more posts. I already have some in mind! Feel free to follow my blog to keep seeing my four-legged babies and my adventures (that aren’t all that adventurous, haha). I’m also going to start sharing more about me, since I sometimes feel I just started this blog, but people from the internet who aren’t close to me don’t really know who I am. Also, a lot of things in my life happened recently, so I wanna talk about those too, briefly.

For now, have a very nice Tuesday!! <3

a happy list, by didi

Wow, I hadn’t shared much here lately. I always do this. I never like it. And I don’t do it on purpose. I just sometimes don’t know what to write or when to post things. I don’t want to post things for the heck of it. I want them to come naturally, you know? But I’m back and excited to write and share little adventures.

Anyway, I hope you are all well. I am here today to share with you guys a happy list that my very close friend Daniela (we call her Didi) wrote. Here are

10 things that make didi happy:

· the smell of books, both old and new.

· when people play with my hair.

· rollercoasters.

· cold days that are perfect for hot chocolate.

· writing. i love to write fiction stories.

· to be waken up by my dogs.

· playing the ukulele.

· spending time with my friends.

· watching silly cartoons, because one is never too old for cartoons.

· listening to music. mostly music that makes me want to dance.

I love these lists. They make my day. If you would like to share a list of things that make you happy, send it to me and I will post it here.

I hope you have an amazing day. I have more posts lined up that I would love to share and hopefully you will love to read. Thanks for stopping by! And thank you, didi, for your happy list. <3

yes, we know mcdonald’s is the worst thing you can do for your body.

and yes, we know there are tastier things out there for the same price.

but honestly, we were really craving a quarter pounder..

don’t judge.

so we went and got one after my little sister’s dance recital,

right after picking up this cute guinea pig, amy.

she’s the last piggy i’m rescuing. i love, love, love waking up every day to healthy and happy adopted piggies, but i already have my hands full.

it kinda makes me sad, cuz part of me (the animal lover) wants to go out there and rescue every guinea pig in need of a home, but the other part of me (the reasonable part) is like stop, you can’t anymore.

oh well.

i’m grateful for the ones i have and that i am able to sustain them.

i’m also grateful for runs to random restaurants with my boyfriend to satisfy our cravings.

did i mention i love him? i do.

this one and another one of my recent posts included burgers. oops. can you tell i love them too?

how is your weekend so far, friends? :)

btw: i changed my blog’s layout, what you do think? i’m really liking it!

dejemos todo y escapemos.

this is a really late post.

more than a month later, really.

oops. that was my fault. i had the intention of uploading this earlier,

but things out of my control happened.

i really did miss writing to you, my friends;

sharing my adventures and reading yours.

anyway,

boyfriend and i drove to corpus christi during the week of final exams.

(some of our friends said we were crazy for doing so. but we didn’t care. we loved it.)

it was kind of a quick, well-deserved break.

we picked up some legos from craigslist;

adopted a guinea pig who seriously needed a new forever home (named him Moose because of his long snout);

and went to the lexington (well, the outside of it and the beach surrounding it) since david had never seen it.

i love showing him new things. it’s that amazed face he makes. like a kid in a toy store, but cuter.

i live for adventures like this with him.<3

i made my first little video diary, too, if you want to see it:

song by León Larregui // “Mar” // Voluma

thanks for stopping by friends, i appreciate it!

see you soon..

bringing lucy and charlie home

March 31, 2016

I never look at craigslist. If anything I look at it maybe twice a year. I don’t know; I just don’t really need anything from there and am too shy to make business with people in that platform. I’m probably not the only one, right?

For some reason, I decided to check craigslist for guinea pigs. I love animals, especially those little creatures. On october I lost my very first guinea pig, Napoleón. Then earlier in march, I had lost my other guinea pig, Linda. I was devastated. I had another guinea pig home, Tomás. I had to remain active and happy for him.

So, I check craigslist, type in guinea pigs in my area, and see that there are two ads for girl guinea pigs being sold. One guinea pig was a year old and the other was just a baby. It infuriated me to read the ad’s description; something along the lines of “I don’t want her,” “I can’t take care of her,” “Don’t have time,” etc. It got me so mad. Why get a small animal if you can’t take care of him/her!? For the baby guinea pig, it said that its owner had gotten her from petco and had been with her for two weeks and no longer wanted her, so she tried to return her and they said no. Hence her ad. Here I am crying because I lost my two BELOVED guinea pigs, and here’s a girl getting tired of hers after just two weeks. Ridiculous. I felt the need to save these little two babies.

IMG_5147 IMG_5177

Meet Charlotte and Lucy! Aren’t they beautiful!?

I, essentially, bought them. I thought my family and boyfriend were going to say that I shouldn’t, that maybe I was being impulsive. But, no! They completely supported me. My mom even helped me pay for both of them. Bless her. She has a huge heart. So, I texted the girls who owned these two piggies and got them that same day.

They look so happy and love their brother Tomás. They have each other’s company even if they fight. For me, it’s endless cuddles and cute faces! Huge reward. I love learning more about them and their personalities.

I am, since, constantly checking for any other guinea pigs in my area in need of rescue. I just hear so many horrible stories about pets being abandoned. It’s so sad.
IMG_5510

By the way, this is a picture of Tomás. He’s so big now!

Thanks for stopping by, friends.

I appreciate it. :)

Do it yourself: Water bottle pots!

The first thing I saw when I started getting into gardening was the cost of good-looking pots: pricy! The more I got into it, the more I realized how creative gardeners were. They use anything – and I mean anything – at hand to plant seeds. Recycling is their forte. And, if you like gardening or want to get into it, I believe it should be yours too. You gotta get creative to save money!

I’ve seen people use cans, soda bottles, egg cartons, egg shells, ice cream tubs, bath tubs, old toilets, tires, shoes, wine bottles, and the list goes on and on, as planters!

If you read my previous blog post you saw that I used bottles of water to make pots for my seeds. So today I bring you this tutorial on how to make them. I would take planters looking like this any day – especially since they are recycled! – instead of those plain o’ black pots! Plus, the retain moisture which is perfect!

Enjoy!

valentine’s day

Instax - Jan-Feb 2016 15 Instax - Jan-Feb 2016 5

I don’t really like Valentine’s Day. I don’t have anything against it; it’s just not my thing or David’s, so we just don’t celebrate it. Yesterday consisted of being outside his garage, talking in the moonlight, with frequent visits of his neighbor’s dog, drinking sprite, taking pictures, a lot of hugging and when-we-get-married talk. I loved it. I love him. Possibly my favorite Valentine’s Day so far. How was yours?

This year has been pretty good so far. Can’t wait to see what else it has in store.

2015 was good to me too. I lost people, I met people. I probably cried more times than I laughed, if I must be honest. But I treasure it. It taught me a lot of things, especially to not stress over the little things and that everything happens for a reason. Two very important things to remember in this life.

Anyway, friends. I hope you have a very good Monday night. Cherish every moment you can!!

your friend,

diana

my 16 hour flight back to the states:

File_007

Hello friends! Finally, I share photos from my trip to India. As the title suggests, I was there for twenty days. I went with other students from my university and a professor on a history course. I learned so many things I did not know before. It was an amazing, amazing experience, and I can’t wait to go back. India stole my heart.

My parents still don’t know, but the airline lost my luggage when I was getting to India. Thus, I was without my suitcase the entire trip. I didn’t have a carry on, so the only clothes  had were those that I had on. I had to share clothes with my roommate (bless her heart for being so nice) and I had to shop for under garments. When I came back home, it was in the airport waiting for me. It didn’t even make it to India. It went to London and back. Lucky all of my stuff was in there intact. I almost cried since I always heard horror stories of people stealing your things. This misfortune taught me I can survive with very little clothes for so many days, anywhere I am in the world. I guess some good came out of it.

My favorite places in no order: The Golden Temple, Mumbai, Kabini, White Rann Desert. A lot of people think the Taj Mahal is going to be the most amazing thing India, but that is not the case. It is amazing, don’t get me wrong. But it SO FULL of people that you almost don’t enjoy it. There are many other places in India that can be 10x more mesmerizing. If you’re thinking about going, GO! We went with a company named CEPA and it was the best.

These photos were taken with my iPhone 6s.

Have an amazing day friends!

If you have any other questions let me know! :)

austin, san marcos, a gig, and food.

hiya friends! how’ve you been? i hope well :) this past monday boyfriend, his band, and i went to austin because they had a gig. i really like that city. it’s so youthful, has delightful architecture, and the people i’ve talked to have been so nice. oh, and its motto is “keep austin weird” which is..interesting, haha.

here are some photos from our trip, accompanied with a few transitions like those in Frasier. well maybe not as clever, but i tried! (please tell me you understand that reference?! brownie points if you do!)

after the show we somehow got hungry again and boys decided to give this restaurant, Big Bite, a try. they serve these big sandwiches with multiple things in them. david and i shared one that had chicken strips, french fries, and mozzarella sticks, all drenched in buffalo sauce and ranch. yes, that sounds, and is, extremely fatty, but that combination was tasty! total college food.

we slept over at our friend’s apartment in a little town – that by the way is so cute! – about 30 minutes from the capital. (oh, and she owns a chinchilla named mango! how cool is that?) we ventured downtown, got smoothie king, shopped in a store full of cool knickknacks, and ate tacos. (gosh, we sure do eat a lot..)

does my writing transpire the excitement i felt? pardon my thoughts being out of order and my constant use of exclamation marks and sophomoric adjectives. these were two fun days!

what have you been up to friends? :) boyfriend and i are up to our neck in finals. it’s not fun. if you, too, are in finals, we understand your pain and are here cheering for ya! be safe, be well, have a little fun! and have a very good day.

I am going to India.

I am studying abroad and taking a class during the winter break.

I have mixed emotions.

I was beyond excited after receiving my “Congratulations! You’ve been accepted!” letter.

As the date approaches, part of me has been like “WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME!? WHAT DID I DO?!”

Another part of me cannot believe I am going to the other side of the world. It makes me feel kind of brave.

The girly part of me wants to shop for clothes before departing, if I must be honest.

But overall, I am proud of myself for going to all of those department heads and asking for signatures, for facing the dean, and for submitting my application– regardless of what everyone told me about the food, the culture, the diseases, the dangers, the multiple “You’re crazy,” the “You don’t know what you’re talking about,”  and the sweet “You’ll get the worst diarrhea of your life!” from my sincere coworker.

I don’t care. I’ve always wanted to go. It’s a once in a life time chance and I took it.

I leave in twenty days for twenty days.

burger king.

Instant Dinner

tonight we ran around town looking for a place to eat. we wanted tacos, but all the good, authentic mexican food places were already closed. we probably spent an hour searching. guess where we ended up eating: burger king.

we then ran back home to turn in homework that was due midnight.

my sister took this picture of us in front of the christmas tree before we left. too bad it didn’t come out :\ maybe next time!

i really love this man and our little adventures.

now we’re off to bed. goodnight!

p.s: this is my 100th blog post. yay!

thanksgiving break trip and one photo booth strip

Urban Outfitters Photo booth with david and ddboyfriend and i went with our friend didi to san antonio for a day. they went to fix their iphones in this big outdoors shopping mall and I accompanied them. didi took her yorkie, molly, who behaved so well and is so cute!

we stopped by urban outfitters; david to look at records, didi to shop for plaid shirts, and I to look at their cameras. i had been to the store several times before and i never noticed they had a photo booth. the last time i remember taking pictures in a photo booth was when i was in elementary school – i know! yeears ago! how lame is that! so when david offered i didn’t hesitate. we both ran in and snapped the first two photos. on the third one didi came in after finding us.

awesome photo booth strip :) kinda wished we would’ve gotten one more strip with more of didi, and maybe molly..

we drove back to our little town at night after having free donuts in krispy kream. did you know that when their sign is on it means free donuts?! david and i did not!! oh those warm donuts <3

after that we had thanksgiving with our families and then we met up with old friends (click here to see photos of that day).

this post is a little late, but how was your thanksgiving? and how has your week been so far? i hope you have a nice day :)

p.s: i got this little canon point-and-shoot, 35mm camera because i wanted something small to capture moments with. this is the first film i develop from it. i love it already.

well, we’re off to bed. we hope you had a fun monday evening. boyfriend and i ate chick-fil-a and every bite was delightful. what did you do? do you like gilmore girls? do you bother your pets too and make them sit through shows they don’t like? am i mean? haha.

p.s. – i forgot how fun it was to use a mac’s photobooth. i shall use it more often!

nice fall afternoons with Jimmy

the weather is just so amazing right now! as I write this I am sitting on a bench of my university, just taking it all in. this is definitely my favorite season.

lately I’ve been going outside more– you know, to take advantage of this blessing– and going outside means spending time with jimmy, our 3 year old golden retriever. we play fetch and we get dirty in the mud the light rains leave behind. we’re something like phil and lil from the Rugrats:

Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 11.19.28 AM

jimmy loves it but I end up looking like angelica:

dirty feets. some pictures of this day, since jimmy is a cute model (and since I’m kind of practicing my photo skills):

we’re doing some construction around the house. hence the holes on the ground. jimmy is pretty careful with them. plus he already knows how to take out his ball if it gets stuck in there.

aw, happy jimmy.

well, this was our day. how was yours? :)

have a happy tuesday!

oh, by the way, this is the second “nice fall afternoons” post I’ve done. the first one was with napoleón and linda, the guinea pigs. you can check it out here :)

sometimes..

· i can’t sit still.

· i really just don’t want to open my mouth to talk. sometimes i say too much.

· i want to sleep all day.

· i go many days without shaving my legs.

· i can’t even stand myself.

· i wanna dance even when there’s no music.

· i want to magically appear in another city.

· i am very organized and pay a lot of attention to detail.

· i am the world’s best procrastinator.

· i want to be a mom. sometimes the thought of bringing kids into this messed up world scares me.

Napo <3

friends,

to what appeared to be the start of a good week, turned out to be one of the worst in my life.

My best friend of 5 years, my guinea pig, my baby boy, my adoration, Napoleón…left my side on october 28.

You don’t know how sad it makes me. I am heartbroken. Someone pulled my heart out and ran with it and my emotions; now I’m empty, left with sadness. All I want is to never leave my bed and sleep and maybe cry some more.

Some might say I’m exaggerating, but my goodness, I am not. That little man meant so much to me. You don’t know the number of nights I would come home from school stressed about life, and he would be there, ready to be carried by my arms to cuddle. I would put him on my chest and we would talk; he would make his piggy noises and I would tell him my day and how much I loved him. Suddenly it was all better. He made me better.

Other times he would just cry or touch me with his paw, and that his way of begging for me to carry him, and once I would do that, the crying would stop. He really was like my first kid…

I had him in my arms minutes after it happened– and thank God I was with him because he did not deserve to go alone– and I could not fathom what it would be like to come home to no one needing me. No one waiting for me to cuddle. No one to call by those unique nicknames one thousand times per day. I just… I would just see him, looking so peaceful, and part of my mind didn’t want to believe it and was hopeful he would wake up. I just really couldn’t comprehend. I also couldn’t understand how in the same year I had lost my childhood best friend, grandpa, and my young-adulthood best friend, Napoleón.

I have another guinea pig, Linda. I love her. I can tell she misses her buddy too. If I say her name she just looks up. If I say his name she goes crazy excited. Lately all else does is sleep. I go to her cage, play with her, give her floor time, and snacks, but I know she’d rather be alone (She bites me when I try to touch her). She’s just more independent than he was. However, I want her to know that I am here for her so I still get out of bed and spend time with her. She needs me now.

This is hard.

I got the flu too. I feel sick all over. My muscles ache. My head is pounding. I can’t breathe through my nose. I miss him terribly.

I just wanted to let you guys know since I consider you my friends, dear readers. I’m moping. And I didn’t want to keep it inside because I’d feel worse. I haven’t told anyone else other than those extremely close to me. I’m just not really in the mood to hear “I’m sorry.” Mostly cuz I’ll just start crying again.

The thought of the days to come without him feel out of place, weird, wrong, but with time I’ll learn to accept it. I know he lived a good life and did things many piggies don’t get to do– getting featured in a magazine, being a finalist in an instagram guinea pig contest, getting a blog named after him, changed people’s perspectives on guinea pigs (Oh, I’m so proud of him!).

I know someday I’ll see him again. I know he’s in a good place. I know he’s healthy and happy and probably has a plethora of his favorite foods with him.

He was an amazing, loving guinea pig.

There is so much more I want to say, but I can’t find the words to write or a way organize my thoughts. For now, I have memories, my writings, and pictures.

By the way, today November 1st is the Day of the Dead in Mexico. I wrote this yesterday, but I waited to post this today because I felt it was appropriate since we are supposed to celebrate and honor those that have passed on by remembering them.

I love you Napoleón.

Thank you for everything.

p.s. I made a tag called napo in case you want to get to know him better or see pictures of him. I know I’m gonna do that just now.

10 blogs I’m loving at the moment.

A list of my favorite blogs at the moment.

I really, really love reading blogs, so I decided to make a list of the ones I’m loving at the moment. I believe they deserve (even more) recognition for their writings and pictures. They make my day every time they post, so I wanted to spread the cheer and introduce you to them, if you don’t already know them. I feel some of these blogs should be part of your repertoire as well, but that is just my opinion :). some of them are big blogs, some of them are little blogs, but who cares! they all have good content and at the moment they are my favorite.

in no specific order, 10 blogs I love at the moment:

Love Taza

My Least Favorite Child Today

Le Happy

Dysfunctional Literacy

The Tony Burgess Homepage

Weird & Wonderful

Pig Love

The Black Sparkles Gal

Barefoot Blonde

New Darlings

These are my favorite right now. What are yours? I am always happy to discover new ones, so if you have any you love, let me know.

Oh rainy day, Oh happy day

IMAG0128 IMAG0129

well, happy day for some. it was a little overwhelming getting to school today with this rain. I don’t know how my little car got through it all but it did. Good boy.

I wasn’t excited for this friday – or lately any friday, since fridays now I mean I have to spend three hours dissecting a stinky cat for my anatomy class. but waking up to pouring rain and witnessing my sisters attempting to get into my dad’s car without getting wet on their way to school changed my perspective for today. even if mom and I almost got stuck in a river and even if I got late to class, today is a good day. so friends, happy friday!

good, happy things that happened this week:

  • I’m an aunt!
  • I developed three roles of film.
  • I cut David’s hair.
  • My boyfriend, my sister, and I gave Alexander the hedgehog, Max the pug, and Napo and Linda the guinea pigs baths.
  • I saw my friend’s baby bump in her baby shower and ate tacos.
  • I submitted an application to study abroad during the winter and I got accepted!
  • My blog turned one year old and I gave it a new look.
  • I discovered new blogs and that makes me happy.
  • This is my 80th blog post.

Makeup: You’re doing it wrong! – An introduction

No one likes being told they’re doing their makeup wrong. Are you kidding me, I would flip if someone came up to me and told me I was applying my eyeliner wrong! I would be so embarrassed. I take pride on my looks just like any other person whether they admit it or not.

However, I can’t help but noticing when other girls apply their makeup erroneously – because, let’s be honest, there is a right and a wrong way to do anything – and it makes me sad that expensive makeup is not used to its full potential and that pretty faces don’t get the most out of their features. I know somedays we are just really busy and don’t have time to correct mistakes we’ve made or to even put on makeup– happens to me all the time! But I’m not talking about those days. I am talking about people that constantly wear their makeup or use products incorrectly.

So, I decided to start this little segment in my blog called “Makeup: You’re doing it wrong!” I know the name for it might a sound a little, for lack of a better word, bitchy and know-it-all, but that is not the case. I just feel it’s catchy and to the point.

I want to make it a place where I share tips that I’ve learned through several sources and by my experience with makeup, skin care, hair products, etc. All things beauty. And, since we all have our little tricks here and there, you can send yours my way and I’ll include them (and your blog) in future posts! :) (More info on that below). I believe that by doing so we can help each other improve our skills, and it will be a way to connect with more beauty lovers.

I know there are different types of skin and different ways of applying makeup, so do not to worry, I have you covered ;) The tips I’ll share here will be either general or tailored to your specific needs. You should still do and use whatever method and products work best for you! No one knows your skin better than you do. These will just be tips that you can use or not.

If you disagree or have a better way of doing something, then awesome! Let me know. We are all learning here everyday. We should not be stubborn and say that we know everything, because we don’t. There are things that I do wrong so I look for ways to better those things. I look for tips and different methods– and that is just what this section will be about.

I really hope you enjoy this little segment that is about to come because I am excited to make it:)

If you already have some tips up your sleeve about anything beauty, send me an email below, with the chance of it getting featured in future blog posts. Please don’t be shy, we’re all friends here :)

If you are having trouble submitting a tip though reader, go directly to my blog post here. If the problem still persists, let me know.

I will edit submissions sent in to fit my blog’s format.

I cannot wait to hear from you guys! I have a few in mind already, so I’ll be posting those soon.

Please understand that: this segment is all my opinion, and my opinion might be different from yours // people are beautiful with or without makeup /I am not obligated to share every tip I get – I need to test them first too // for love and napo is my personal lifestyle blog.

Thanks so much!

I hope you have a great Thursday! :)

silly photos of a human and a hedgehog

I am running late for class (and having a pug, a chihuahua, and a guinea pig next to me doesn’t help to get out of bed), but I wanted to share these pictures of last night with alexander the hedgehog, after david, his brother, and I went to watch The Martian! And yes, you should go watch it!

today I have a long day ahead of me –including dissecting a cat for my anatomy class– but I’ll be ok :) what are your plans this weekend?

have a happy friday!

diana

one of those sad moments.

you know that feeling where something, anything happens and it just ruins your mood completely and it changes it to something you do not want?

that feeling where all you wanna do is crawl into bed and go to sleep?

right now I wanna do just that; go to my bed, cuddle with my boyfriend, maybe have a comfort food or watch The Office, and go to sleep. hide away from the world by covering myself with my yellow comforter, and try to forget feeling like this. maybe even cry out of anger.

ugh. I feel so little.

And not in the child-like way. i mean the there-are-people-who-are-better-and-bigger-than-you sad way.

I even feel embarrassed. And for a prideful person like myself, embarrassment is not  something I can easily deal with. Should I try to suck it up ?

I’m writing this as a form to vent and in hopes that putting it out there will make feel not like this. Although I’m not sure if it is working or making me more self conscious. Oh well, it’s out there.

an afternoon with alexander, angelica, david, & my pentax

almost a month ago I received on the mail a pentax film camera from the 70s that david got for me.  it is so so pretty. the moment I pulled it out the box I fell in love with it. i couldn’t stop thanking david enough.

here are some photos I took with it that I wanted to share with you guys:)

aren’t my models the best? I love it when I capture pictures of David laughing.

I still need to play with my camera a little bit more, and maybe even try a different photo lab, but overall I was happy with the results. bothering grumpy alexander and telling him not to eat my shoe is always fun.

happy wednesday!

farmer’s market: september

the other day I stumbled upon this picture of the first time my boyfriend and I went to our local farmer’s market. it made me miss it and want to go. all of the food and the fun him and I had –that was a good day!

10347475_10154807628675293_3754723332035682278_n

then last saturday I woke up at 9 am randomly, like something told me to wake up. I look at my phone and it has a notification saying “farmer’s market today!” so I had to tell david and an hour later we were on our way. oh how he spoils me even when he’s half asleep! <3

boyfriend had many taquitos, I had a corn and a lemon paleta. happy, happy campers! :)

I took my minolta with me and shot some photos of this day + the buildings around us. I would gladly share them..but I’m a very lazy human that hasn’t developed that film yet, sorry, hah! david took his lego star wars minifigures and shot several pictures too! (you can follow him on instagram here!)

ok, I don’t know how this is gonna sound, but you know don’t know how happy it made me to see that someone made and sold natural deodorants in my hometown (and in such a cute packaging!). in case you’re interested: it works, it smells good, you can make your own by following recipes online,  and best of all: it’s not bad for your body. yay!

oh, and that orange mason jar is a carrot cake for my grandma! it smelled soo good!

the sky looked so pretty that day. we just had to go on the rooftop again.

I love local events. I’m glad David likes them too.

happy friday friends! :) – diana

can I already get to that point in my life…

  • where I know what I am doing for a career so I don’t keep guessing what path to take next.
  • where I don’t have to write pointless essays.

cuz that would be great..

*

I love school, but I really, really hate essays.

And I hate not knowing where I am going to end working.

*

I just want to live with my boyfriend

in a little apartment in a big city,

have many guinea pigs,

and have a job that makes me happy

and that shows my skills.

don’t we all!

*

I am not in a rush to graduate though.

again, since I don’t know where I am heading.

*

for now,

I live at home with my guinea pigs,

I see my boyfriend often,

have a job in a place where I am a leader,

am in college,

and I write essays.

but I’m happy.

september photo challenge: week two

i told myself i was gonna post these photos every five days to have enough for the whole 30 days in september. but i’ve been bad about it :( school has been getting tougher and tougher. this week, for example, i have tests and reports almost daily. it’s horrible, but i’m surviving! i miss writing for my little blog though. so today i took a little time to bring you something i was supposed to post saturday. (oops). not that i am forced or anything, but i love doing so, and writing this + reading your blog posts makes me happy and gives a break from writing reports and memorizing things i’ll probably forget next week, sadly. so, without further ado, the second week of my september photo challenge! :)

have a nice week. diana :)

I cut my own hair!

after watching several ponderous videos on YouTube (half of one that appeared on my What To Watch, actually) on how to self-cut hair, I was curious about the idea of cutting mine. I’ve been wanting to get a hair cut for a while now. I just haven’t gone. no reason. maybe just that I’m lazy to go to the salon and get it cut?
well, laziness aside, yesterday night around 1 am I got the crazies, my sowing scissors, and chopped off 4 fingers all around!
It’s not the first time I get impulses to cut my hair. I always cut my bangs whenever I feel like it. (even if my hair dresser gets mad at me for doing so.) in January I actually went back to bangs I hadn’t styled since elementary school (post here) and they didn’t turn out bad!
in july I dyed it red myself with the help of my sister and a L’Oreal hair dye box, after getting the idea from a blogger (easily-influenced, me). I loved it despite of the damage it did to my hair and the mess it created in my restroom.
but this is different! I’ve never cut my entire hair :o it looks the same, almost, just with more layers in the bottom.
i’m happy though. bye damaged ends!! and yay for saving money!
wait til I tell my mom. she’ll freak! :D

happy tuesday! — diana

p.s. – i want pancakes so bad! maybe i can used the money i saved on going to the salon to get some…hmm ;)

seeing old friends

IMAG9919

That’s boyfriend, myself, and our friend Andy having brunch in IHOP.

Oh, how we love Andy! If I were a mom, I would want my kid to be just like him. So nice, helpful, respectful. The epitome of a good person.

Snapchat-8061294874663623278

We also love his company. So when the opportunity to see him presented itself (since we don’t really see each other cuz he’s in another city for college), we took it! I love this kid and his sense of humor – can’t say it enough!

After leaving IHOP and saying good bye to Andy, as he was about to go on the road, David and I went back to my house to pick up a package I had just received: the Minolta XG7! Ah, so excited to try it out!

Later, David picked up his two band members, they ate, loaded up their instruments and we all went to a bar where they played for the night. They had beer and played us their music, I had a drink and took some videos. (I also studied for anatomy cuz I felt bad for not doing so, but can you blame me? Too many terms!)

IMAG9923

Monday morning in school I’m sitting in the library’s computer lab and I see a familiar figure coming in. It was my high school best friend, Esteban. I approached him and he sat next to me and caught up a bit. I like it when we talk. I don’t, nor do I think I will ever, exactly know why we stopped talking much after high school. We had a really good brother-sister relationship.

Snapchat-3641538997419693442

I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing like seeing old, long-time good friends. The conversations, the history, the jokes, everything. Even if we meet new people or live far away from each other or are each busy with our lives, we can still get together one afternoon and laugh like only a day passed since we last saw each other. And I find that fucking awesome and it makes me happy.

I love my friends. I hope we keep seeing each other like this.

Photo on 2010-08-05 at 02.06  Photo on 2010-08-05 at 02.06 #3

I was cleaning my laptop when I came across these two pictures from 2010. 5 years ago. The year Napoleon came to be my pet and hairy roommate.

Oh how I love this little creature. Every day he makes us all laugh, he follows me around my room, and whistles like there’s no tomorrow whenever he hears someone in the kitchen.

He’s also such a nice big brother to his little sister. He’s such a good leader when it comes to exploring new territories. He sometimes doesn’t like to share his food or bed, so he grrs and chases Linda. But that’s just normal brother-sister love!

Also he’s a little grump. But I wouldn’t change him for anything in the world!

Well, I’m off to pet him and try to convince him to sleep with me (although he almost never wants to :( little man likes his freedom and his own bed, haha).

I just wanted to share those two pictures with you because I really liked them and because I can’t believe he’s been with me five years already! He has taught me so much and he doesn’t even know it.

I love my piggies so much.

Goodnight!

I love the university I said I was never going to attend

but I am so glad I did.

 diana mini 2 25

I just finished my first week as a senior in college.

I feel really good about this semester. I’m already really busy and I love it!

I am taking tough but informative classes; I am a volunteer; I have a job; I’m teaching myself how to take analog pictures; and I have an organized planner. I think I’m doing well.. :)

how was your week? and if you’re in school, how’s it going? :)!

the first night after my first play

I just discovered these pictures in my google drive.

(He shared them with me.)

It was after the opening night of the first play I’ve ever been on.

He went both days to support me.

I really, really, really do like this guy.

And I think he likes me.

(Even with all of my makeup, haha)

I have the best boyfriend.

Pictures date March 28, 2015.

I like this summer. I like him. And I like our little yellow camera.

I sometimes feel I’m not doing much with my summer. Or, since it’s almost over, that I didn’t do much with it. I see some friends abroad helping others; I see people exploring the U.S. by car; I see some classmates taking many summer classes to graduate earlier; I see others reading book after book after book while I’m stuck in the same one. And, well, as for me I am just here at home most of the time.

But today it made me reconsider.

Even though I feel did not do as much as others this summer, I had fun. And if I think about it I did do several things. I worked as a research assistant in my university, I traveled with my family, I helped my mom and my aunt start their local business, I’m about to finish that one book I’ve been wanting to read, and I spent the beginning of summer with my grandfather, among other things.

One thing that my boyfriend and I finally got to doing, that I love we took advantage of this summer, was swimming in his pool many times. We bought an underwater camera a few days ago and we went crazy with it (cuz it was just so cool to throw a gadget in the water and it be ok – a strange feeling and a little scary too!). Being there with him, swimming, playing, capturing underwater shots, made me think about how much I really liked this summer. (And how much I love spending time with him.) So those “negative” thoughts just went away. (Thank you, David.) I did the things I had the chance to, and even if I could’ve done more, I am happy with the stuff I did.

some pictures from our camera:

I still need to learn how to swim.. maybe next summer! :D

Puebla, Puebla

After spending a few days in Mexico City, we got a bus and came to Puebla. The outsides, I must admit, weren’t as pretty as downtown, where we stayed. Because of time we were only there for about two days. I was a little sad because we didn’t go to a volcano(!!) that was in a town near. I’ve always wanted to see one, and to be so close, aghh :( Next time.. Either way I enjoyed our time there. Walking the streets, going to mercaditos, taking polaroid with my sisters, getting drawn by an amazing artist (post coming on that!), etc..

This is what we saw in Puebla:

IMG_7351 IMG_7352             IMG_7650 IMG_7652   IMG_7653 IMG_7656

The thing I just loved about downtown were all the old buildings. The details and everything..

Africam Safari

This was a safari a little bit outside of the city. In it you could either ride your car or ride a tour bus along with others. We went in a bus. I loved that the animals were roaming free and it appeared like they a lot of space. There are elephants, hippos, tigers, lions (so freaken majestic!), alligators, gorillas, you name it! We don’t usually go to zoos when traveling, but we heard really good things about this one so we went. We didn’t regret it one bit. Oh and just in case, yes, it was called “Africam.”

IMG_7493
This one was a man-operated gates to prevent tigers, lions, and bears from escaping their habitat and going into other animal’s. We went through several.
IMG_7505
This guy! He was so posing for the camera. I took some selfies and it’s like he knew. So smart!
IMG_7509
We went to see the lions and I caught a peek from the side of their “cage.” Only God knows how they haven’t escaped.. They were on top of a Jeep, resting. On the other side was the rest of the Jeep and glass so you can easily see them.

IMG_7526  IMG_7527IMG_7531  IMG_7534

Mexico is just so colorful. I love it.

As always, thanks for stopping by! You can check out more places we’ve traveled to here.

Have a very nice day :)

Mexico City – I love you!

Your buildings, your weather, your people, your food, and your museums! But not the traffic..

My family and I went about two weekends ago just to explore museums. We had been almost two years before and we had fallen in love with the city. There are so many things to do that we just needed to go back. It’s so beautiful and historical (it’s no wonder UNESCO even declared it such!) and its weather is just so perfect. Everyday it was at 70s and at night 60s and rainy. Nothing compared to this Texas heat in the 100s.. One night it was even around 50º! That’s like our winter here!! :( How I miss it.. It was the perfect vacation for us. Did I mention we even saw the Addams Family musical? :D

A few pictures from our days together + pictures from the past time we went:

Chapultepec castle

Yes, Mexico City has a castle in it, and it is amazing. It also has a forest where there many museums including this one. You take a little train and it takes you up this hill to the castle. I really, really suggest you visit it. It was my favorite museum.

IMAG4221IMAG4222 IMAG4242 IMAG4259 IMAG4262         IMAG4250IMAG4235IMAG4271

In the forest there were two other museums; the museum of anthropology (MNA) and the museum of modern art (MAM). My family and I went to MNA for an afternoon. Dad took me to the MAM to see a photography exhibition by Gisèle Freund. There were five expositions but we only got to see three because of time. Believe me, I would’ve spent all day there but I felt bad for dragging my dad around. He enjoyed it very much but I could tell he was hungry and a little tired. He kept insisting that I keep exploring the museum, but no, I felt bad.

^ This exhibition was by Lorena Wolffer. There were various artifacts with numbers on them. You would be given a binder and in there were stories matching the artifact. Those stories were of abused women. Abused by their husbands, coworkers, daughters, boyfriends, you name it. It was very powerful.

These are a little outside Mexico City. You can climb them, some not all the way. I climbed one of them but I almost had vertigo up there! It was so bad. My sister and dad made it up top. I just went halfway and sat down. But what a view!

Frida kahlo’s house

In this house Frida Kahlo was born, raised, and died. It was changed a little since that time, but you still get the feel of it. The walls are covered by her paintings. You can take pictures but you have to pay.

We’ll definitely visit you again, Mexico City.

If you’ve ever wanted to, GO! You won’t regret it :)

You can check out more places we’ve traveled to here. Thanks for stopping by!

one of my favorite dates

This happened in May.

1. Boyfriend and I get dressed and go see the opening of our local theater production of The Graduate. – Amazing acting! We really, really enjoyed it.

2. Afterwards we pass by the bowling alley. We think about how fun it would be to go there. We do. He turns the car around and we bowl. We get our shoes and our names are Linda and Napo for the rest of the evening. He won. I think..

3. We got hungry. We went to Whataburger. I had pancakes, he had a bacon burger.

4. He drove me home. We talked for while outside my house in his Jeep, as we usually do.

5. We go to sleep in our own beds, in each’s home, wishing we could just live together and still be together for the rest of the night.

Max’s first time in a pool

Oh, how I really wish these would have come out perfect. Not blurry like they are, cuz this was a really fun day. Getting together with old friends, eating wings, watching a horror movie, swimming in a really hot day with a pug by your side… I mean, really, is there anything better in the summer? I think not.

(some photos by me, some photos by my beautiful friend, doris.)

ps: I don’t think Max liked the pool, but it did help him cool off on this very sunny day.

she just knew.

If you read the post I wrote about being in a hospital, you might remember that I was there accompanying my grandfather.

I wrote that entry on May 29; he passed away June 11.

We were sad. We cried – so much. We still do sometimes, secretly, in moments.

We knew it had to happen, like it does with everyone else in life.

Grandpa – an amazingly strong man – and I were two hours away from our hometown. When the doctors told us it was time to come say our goodbyes, everyone gathered.

I know this might sound strange, but a couple of days before this happened, our Chihuahua, Angie, did not leave my grandmother’s side, not even for a second, not even when my sister called her. She didn’t even leave the room where my grandpa lived for a while in.

It was as if she knew we were sad and that something was about to happen.

I took this photography of her with my grandmother. And seeing it makes me think of those times again.

I treasure it.

It shows that even these little creatures know more than we know. She really did feel my grandmother’s sadness. And ours.

farmer’s market: june

Because today was our town’s farmer’s market and we didn’t get to go and we are sad, I wanted to share a couple of cute pictures my boyfriend took of Max last month that we went. For memories and such.

Just look at him! Happy boy. Oh and look at the size of that mango in my hand! Huge!

All smiles + my grandma in the background, hey!

We even made it to one of the local magazines:

Picture from the article. So famous, that Pug!

Regardless of his popularity and our happiness produced by the food present, Max had a little..accident, if you will.. I completely forgot to bring doggy bags until he reminded me by leaving a present for the grass. Oh, Max… All of us, even grandma, had to pretend we didn’t know that had happened. We just left laughing. What else could we do, haha! Sorry!

Oh, also this really creepy old truck driver guy came up to my sister and me and started flirting with us and telling me that I should dump my boyfriend, and that he was in a hunt for a wife that looked like me. We ran.. haha

Anyway, leaving the poop and creepy guy talk behind, I hope your day is good and that you are happy :)

Thanks for stopping by, and don’t talk to strangers, kids! See you soon :)
